Venezuelan Soccer Coming to Gol TV

The channel has come to an agreement that gives it the right to broadcast five matches per week of the Venezuelan local football league, starting in 2016 and running for two years, with the option for two more.

Gol TV has added a new South American local league to it's growing portfolio. The channel has come to an agreement with the Venezuelan Football Clubs Association and the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) for the TV rights to the local tournament, starting in 2016.

The agreement runs for two years and has an option for two more years. In the first stage, Gol TV will broadcast up to five games per weeks, eventually getting that figure up to 10 games a week.

"This is the most important deal signed in the history of football in Venezuela," said Laureano Gonzalez, president of the FVF. "This is a step in the unstoppable growth of national football."

The contract will influence the local football calendar, which will start playing games on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It might also add a game on Mondays.

The contract gives the exclusive television rights to Gol TV, although Nelson Gutierrez, executive director of Gol TV, did not rule out working together with local TV to produce the games.

According to reports in the Venezuelan media, the deal will leave US$ 6 million to the teams of the first division of Venezuelan football, although the newspaper El Universal says it has not yet been decided how that money will be allocated.

"The opportunity we have found with our allies Gol TV is historic and I have no doubt it will bring important benefits to this sport, which is our passion and that requires us all the effort and commitment... This achievement is the work of all, "said George Antar, president of the Association of Clubs.
