Directv Latin America to Air Conmebol‘s Copa Sudamericana

Directv Latin America announced this Wednesday the acquisition of the rights to air the Copa Sudamericana and Recopa tournaments for 2019-2022.

Directv Latin America has acquired the TV rights to broadcast Conmebol’s Copa Sudamericana and Recopa in Spanish-speaking LatAm and the Caribbean for 2019-2022.

The pay-TV provider was chosen “after a technical evaluation by Conmebol’s Technical Evaluation Committee of all the offers made in an open and competitive bidding process,” as reported by Conmebol [the South American Football Federation].

“In the last two years, the Copa Sudamericana tournament has increased its ratings, its arena attendance and the digital interaction. By redesigning the format in 2017, with changes in schedule, better prizes and new standards, the competition was taken to another level. Today we are proud to announce a new top-tier partner to deliver all the excitement of Conmebol’s Copa Sudamericana and Recopa to every Spanish-speaking country in Latin America and the Caribbean. In Directv we are aware that Latin Americans are passionate about football and we are very proud to strengthen our relationship with Conmebol and deliver the best coverage of the Copa Sudamericana and Recopa in the region, with our signature broadcasting quality,” said Rick Nerod, SVP Content at Directv Latin America.

The license is for all Spanish-language countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. In Paraguay and Bolivia, however, Directv Latin America will air the tournaments through sub-licenses.
