With international championships, star athletes and hundreds of record broken, people flocked to social networks by the millions in 2015, to voice their opinions and share the moments with the world.
Only a few days away from 2015, Twitter and Facebook take a look back at the year's top moments and trends generated by the world of sports.
Which was the year's most popular event on Facebook? With an unbelievable amount of posts and mentions generated in a few hours, it was undoubtedly the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, labeled as the combat of the century.
The fight generated 115 million posts and interactions all over the world from more than 37 million people (the largest number of users centered on a single event) under the hashtag #MayPac.
In addition, between June 1 and July 4, 4.59 million people generated 309 million posts, comments and likes about the Copa America, where Chile was crowned the winner in the finale against Argentina.
In June, the Champions League finale in Berlin, between the FC Barcelona and Juventus, generated over 76 million interactions on Facebook from 28 million people; while the XLIX Super Bowl generated an impressive 65 million.
Lastly, the NBA once again broke records, with a six-game finale that drew 32 million people to the social network, who generated 173 million posts, comments and likes, making it the most successful basketball event in Facebook history.
As far as individual performances go, it comes as no surprise that Mayweather and Pacquio take the top 2 spots on Facebook's Top 10, followed by the former MMA champion, Ronda Rousey.

Same as Facebook, Twitter also published its lists of top trend for 2015, revealing the most popular hashtags used by people in 2015. Over on the 140 character network, international and European soccer took the lead, taking over the first four spots.
The Al-Ahly Sporting Club from Egypt was number one, followed by the Manchester United, the Liverpool Football Club and the Real Madrid.
