ESPN launched its flagship ESPN App across Spanish-speaking Latin America, offering a more personalized experience on smartphones and tablets than ever before. Available on Android and iOS, the ESPN App is now serving fans with dedicated local editions in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.
With the same capabilities and functionality as its U.S. edition, the ESPN App showcases ESPN’s expansive content on one screen, delivering an elegant, lively and more personal sports experience. Each edition of the app features personalization, alerts, videos and highlights, audio, and customized local news for fans in each market.
“Making ESPN’s flagship app available in Latin America represents another great step in our development of a truly global digital platform that puts ESPN on the home screen of every fan,” said John Kosner, executive vice president of ESPN Digital and Print Media. “The app will allow us to better serve the fast-growing audience of fans in the region, where most consume ESPN content on mobile devices. Fans will enjoy a personalized, intuitive experience that is familiar across all devices.”
The ESPN App’s Spanish-speaking Latin American content is created and managed by ESPN editorial teams across Latin America and around the world, including Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Miami, Los Angeles and Bristol, as well as journalists dedicated to industry-leading coverage of global football, boxing, baseball, basketball, tennis and more. The app makes ESPN’s industry-leading content easily discoverable, while delivering incredibly fast scores and an engaging experience with text, video, audio, advertising and more.
The launch of these apps represent the latest step in ESPN’s development of a global digital platform that powers local editions of signature ESPN digital properties – including the ESPN website and app – in multiple languages around the world.
ESPN has launched eight editions of the ESPN App and ten editions of ESPN.com (as well as an ESPN section on QQ.com in China) since they debuted in the U.S. 18 months ago – a pace of nearly one launch per month. Australia’s edition of the ESPN App is slated to launch in early 2017.
ESPN digital consistently ranks among the top sports properties, reaching an average of 108 million unique sports fans every month across the globe. In Spanish-speaking Latin America, where more than 65 percent of users consume ESPN content on mobile devices, ESPN digital has grown more than 20% in the past two years, becoming the second-ranked digital sports brand, reaching millions of fans every month.
